St. Patrick’s celebrations occur early in Sedona with residents and visitors gathering to celebrate the Irish holiday Saturday, March 3.

The city’s 42nd annual St. Patrick’s Parade & Festival takes over Jordan Road at 10:30 a.m.

In celebration of the Arizona Centennial, the parade incorporates Sedona’s earliest family into the festivities.

Not only will Sedona’s history be celebrated but so will its Irish heritage.

The parade grand marshals will be the descendants of the J.J. Thompson family.

Thompson, an Irishman himself, was the first Anglo settler in Sedona making recognition of his family an appropriate selection.

Thompson homesteaded in 1876, and his family was prominant in the area when Arizona became the 48th state in 1912.

While this year’s parade offers a little history lesson in the spirit of the centennial, it will also be packed with fun and excitement for the entire family.

Parade entries range from trucks pulling elaborate floats to marching performers to riders on horseback.

The Red Rockin’ Grannies will sashay down Jordan Road, Yavapai-Apache royalty will make an appearance and children from various clubs, organizations and schools will march.

Following the parade, attendees are invited to further celebrate at the festival.

Two parking lots located just off the parade route on Jordan Road will be packed full of food and beer vendors and musicians to keep the adults entertained.

Children won’t know where to start. The festival will feature a bounce house, joust arena, dance lessons, face painting, balloon animals, magic show, Smokey the Bear and Deputy Do-Right.

So, come out and join your neighbors for Sedona’s only parade to celebrate the city’s heritage.

It’s events like these that truly make Sedona a community.

It would be helpful to have the times and route information. I have looked at three articles and not found this basic info. Thanks.
