When will you finish your holiday shopping?

Our phones ring off the hook even when our offices are closed. Readers always have questions for us ranging from, “Why did John Doe take that position on this issue?” to “Do you know the phone number to City Hall?” to “When will my letter to the editor appear in the newspaper?”

News Editor Christopher Fox GrahamSome of the questions we can’t answer; we may report on a council member’s vote but if he or she declines to answer us, we can’t report it to you. Others can be answered by the caller themselves in the same fashion we would find the information — City Hall’s phone number is in the telephone book. Most of us don’t have it memorized.

We can answer a few of the questions, and those are the questions we answer time and again. So, we’ve decided to save some of our readers a phone call and answer some of our frequently asked questions here.

When will my letter to the editor publish?

We cannot predict when a letter to the editor will run because it depends on the volume and when the letter was submitted. I try to publish letters by date I receive them, but that’s not always possible due to space.

If I have room for a 100-word letter, but the next in line is a 300-word letter, I have to go with the letter that fits. We also do not guarantee every letter will appear in the newspaper.

Who draws your political cartoons?

Larson Newspapers’ political cartoons are drawn by Rob Pudim. He receives each of our three publications and draws his cartoons based on what he reads. He does not receive any input from us on content.

How do I appear in @ Random?

Readers cannot arrange to be featured in @ Random. That would defeat the purpose of randomly selecting a person to interview. If you believe you have a story worth telling, please contact us with the details and if we agree, we’ll assign a reporter and sometimes a photojournalist to tell your story.

Why isn’t your entire newspaper free online?

Our website is meant as a supplement to our print product, not a replacement. We do feature a few news stories from the newspaper on the site, and the site is equipped with features not available in the newspaper, such as up-to-date weather and gas prices.

How do I submit something to be published in the newspaper?

Visit our website and click on “Submissions” and then “Press Release.” All the information you need can be found there, including where to email your submission. A few years back, I drafted guidelines under “Press Release Tips” to further explain how to write a release including some basic examples.

August is slow in Sedona, and we’re always looking for writren content for our readers. If you can, always submit a photo, and make sure it’s large, about 1 megabyte or bigger, and the people in it are clearly identified.

How do I contact the newspaper with a question or story idea?

Email works best. Reporters’ email addresses are listed at the end of their stories and phone extentions are always listed on Page 2A. My email address is This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

If you have a story suggestion, include the phrase “Story Idea” in the subject line.
