It’s official. During a special meeting of the Sedona Fire District on Wednesday, June 19, the Governing Board approved the low bid and funding for the new Fire Station No. 6, which will be built near Chapel Road on State Route 179.

Sedona Fire District Fire Chief Kris Kazian“This will greatly enhance our ability to respond to calls and will benefit everyone who lives, works or visits the area,” SFD Fire Chief Kris Kazian said.

Bids for the project were open June 5 with the low bid of $1,944,000 coming in from Phoenix-based Danson Construction. Including a 6 percent contingency plan — in case additional funding is needed — as well as an array of additives such as blinds, kitchen and laundry equipment and landscaping. The board approved a loan for $2.25 million with Zions First National Bank. The loan is for 2.9 percent interest for 10 years. During that time, SFD will pay $343,000 in interest. Kazian said they considered a 15-year loan but the interest for that would tally nearly $600,000 in interest charges.
