After burning nearly 7,000 acres at a cost of $5.8 million, fire crews have finally gotten the upper hand on the Doce Fire.

Sedona Fire District Division Chief Scott SchwisowAs of press time on Tuesday, June 25, the fire was 70 percent contained after scorching 6,767 acres seven miles northwest of Prescott, according to the U.S. Forest Service. The cause of the fire is still under investigation but it is believed to be man-made.

In all, 650 fire personnel battled the blaze from both the ground and the air. Most were called in from other areas including two from the Sedona Fire District — division chief Scott Schwisow and firefighter Todd Miranda. Both arrived at the fire on June 19, the day after it began.
