As Judge Rodger E. Overholser contemplates whether to fill his days of retirement completing his many projects and hobbies, or giving golf another chance in hopes of improving his game, the city will search for a new candidate to be its magistrate.

In Camp Verde, Rodger E. Overholser worked as a judge magistrate for two years before coming to Sedona. Overholser has served as magistrate in Sedona for more than three years, but now that he is weeks away from his 70th birthday, he decided to give retirement one more shot.Overholser’s last day on the job is Friday, April 19, although he will continue to be available for consultation until the position is filled.

“Judge Overholser was a pleasure to work with during the time that he was with the city of Sedona,” City Manager Tim Ernster said. “He made a number of improvements in court operations and I know the police department and city attorney’s office were very pleased with improvements he made during his tenure. We will miss Judge Overholser and we wish him well.”
