The Invest in Education campaign held a public forum on Wednesday, Sept. 25, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Los Abrigados Resort & Spa to inform Sedona residents about the Sedona-Oak Creek School District’s upcoming budget increase override and provide arguments in favor of the increase from members of the community.

David Lykins, superintendent of the Sedona-Oak Creek School District, fields questions on Wednesday, Sept. 25, during the public forum for SOCSD’s upcoming budget override. The override, which is the only item on the 2013 ballot for Sedona, would keep the district from losing more than $900,000 in funding over the next three years after the previous override was voted down in November 2012.

SOCSD Superintendent David Lykins was present for the event and explained how the district has made cuts to its current budget, which included cutting down hours for multiple positions at all three schools as well as not replacing employees who retired at the end of the 2012-2013 school year.
