Sedona has produced a number of highly regarded artists in various disciplines, but one has gained notoriety for his work in the medium of Lego bricks.

“Vote Spock” is a 30 inch by 40 inch art piece created out of Lego bricks by former Sedona resident Dave Shaddix, part of his “Going Boldly …” triptych also featuring Dr. Leonard McCoy and Capt. James T. Kirk. Shaddix spends hours creating mosaics and 3-D sculptures out of Lego bricks.For Dave Shaddix, the interlocking building blocks are more than just toys, but a unique medium for creating sculptures and mosaics, and he said he’s been working with them as a medium for about six years.

“It was sort of a combination of things. My kids play with Legos, and I played with Legos a lot as a kid growing up in Sedona. I used to have a ton of them. I’m certain there’s somebody up there [in Sedona] with my Legos right now,” Shaddix said.
