For a child in need, they can be one of the most important adults in their lives.

Those involved with Court Appointed Special Advocates have been acting as a go-between as well as a friendly smile or a shoulder to cry on for the children of Yavapai County for the last 26 years.

For more information on volunteering with the Court Appointed Special Advocates, contact Sauer at (928) 771-3165 or Mike Wade at (928) 554-8903.According to their website, CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to watch over and advocate for abused and neglected children, to make sure they don’t get lost in the overburdened legal and social service system or languish in inappropriate group or foster homes. Volunteers stay with each case until it is closed and the child is placed in a safe, permanent home. For many abused children, their CASA volunteer will be the one constant adult presence in their lives.

“We offer an everyday person’s view of what’s best for the child,” said Tracy Sauer, Yavapai County program manager.  “We try and close that gap between the child and court system and in the process make sure they don’t fall through the cracks.”
