The completion status bar in front of the Uptown Parking Garage will not be hitting 100% anytime soon.
Sedona Deputy City Manager Andy Dickey said on Friday, May 29, that an installation problem with the garage’s decorative serpentine exterior wall facade is under structural engineering review, with no opening date set.
“The issue is not related to the color or appearance of the wall,” Dickey wrote to Sedona City Council members. “Rather, it involves questions regarding how portions of the serpentine wall facade system were installed and whether the installation conforms to the project requirements. Because the issue was identified during project closeout, the design team and structural engineer are reviewing the installation and evaluating what corrective measures, if any, may be required.”
General contractor McCarthy Building Companies has been developing potential corrective options, but no approach has been selected yet. Until one is, Dickey said, the city cannot set a new opening date.
“While no revised opening date has been established, schedule impacts extending into August are possible,” Dickey wrote.
Dickey added that he will update city staff and council as more information becomes available.
