Construction began on the northeast corner of the intersection of State Route 89A and Posse Ground Road for a drive-thru Black Rock Coffee Bar that was approved in August.

The 0.423-acre lot, which was flattened for construction as of Monday, March 23, will include an entrance and exit on Posse Grounds road and a two-foot easement to the city for a possible future widening of the sidewalk.

A five-foot-wide pedestrian path is currently planned to connect the site to the sidewalk on Posse Grounds Road.

No entrance along 89A is planned and the sidewalk is not affected in the proposal.

“The total landscaped area is 6,232 sq. ft. requiring 16 trees and 47 shrubs,” the proposal packet reads. “16 trees — 3 existing, 13 proposed — and 143 shrubs are provided.”

The trees, shrubs and landscaping is not set to block any views of the red rocks.

The drive-thru will have one window and accommodate 15 cars in line.

There will be six parking spaces and two bicycle parking spaces.

The initial application for the 26.5-foot tall building came in December 2024, with revisions in March, May and July 2025.
