As summer temperatures rise, Sedona residents and visitors can cool off at the pool. The Sedona Community Pool at 570 Posse Ground Road is owned by the Sedona-Oak Creek School District but operated by the Sedona Parks and Recreation Department, and opened for the summer on May 24.
Youth and seniors pay $2 per visit, while adults pay $3. Aqua fitness classes are $5 per person, and group swim lessons are $35 for an eight-class session. Private swim lessons are available for $20 per 30-minute session or $15 per person for two-person lessons.
“We started water aerobics a little early this year, so we’ve already had a few sessions,” Parks and Recreation Manager Josh Frewin said. “It’ll be mostly the same as in previous years — swim lessons, water aerobics, lap swim, open swim — all the usual activities. We do have slightly extended hours this year, opening a bit earlier and staying open later than in the past. Overall, it’ll be a similar setup, but we’ve got a great group of lifeguards, and it’s shaping up to be a fun summer.”
The pool will be closed Mondays for cleaning and open the remainder of the week through Monday, Aug. 4.
The schedule for Tuesday through Friday will consist of lap swim from 8 to 9 a.m. and noon to 1:15 p.m., a daily water fitness class at 9:15 a.m., group swimming lessons at 10:30 and 11:15 a.m. and 5:30 and 6:15 p.m. and open swim and private lessons from 1:30 to 5:15 p.m.
Daily fitness classes at 9:15 a.m. are $5, with no advanced registration available, and will include Aqua Zumba on Tuesdays, water yoga on Wednesdays and water aerobics on Thursdays and Fridays.
On Saturdays, StarBabies and Star Tots classes for infants from 6 months to 2 years of age will take place at 9 a.m. at a cost of $5, followed by lap swim from 9:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and open swim from 1 to 7 p.m. Sundays will allow lap swim from 9 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and open swim from 1 to 7 p.m.
Private swimming lessons are available Tuesday through Friday from 1:30 to 4:45 p.m. for $20 per lesson. Registration opens each Sunday by phone only at (928) 203-5096; lessons are drop-in but availability can be checked ahead of time.
Athletics and Aquatics Supervisor Carmen Brashier said she expected pool staffing to remain stable this year, and that the pool was fully staffed by mid-April with 23 certified lifeguards on duty, with a retention rate of 78% from last season.
In past years in the mid-2010s, the pool closed due to staffing shortages. Many of those closures were attributed to sick employees or other staffing issues.
The city is again offering a tiered incentive bonus for lifeguards who commit to working through the extended summer. Lifeguards who remain on staff through August will earn a $1,000 bonus, those continuing through September will receive $1,200, and those who work through October as well as meet hourly requirements will earn the full $1,500.
Also new for 2025 is a dedicated sensory-free zone at the pool, available anytime during pool hours for individuals prone to sensory overstimulation. Since the last season Parks and Recreation is certified as a Certified Autism Center through a partnership with the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards.
