Uptown merchants, Sedona Parks & Rec host Safe & Fun Trick-or-Treat1 min read

The McMillan family poses for a photo at the Safe & Fun Trick-or-Treat in Uptown in 2018. The city of Sedona’s Parks & Recreation Department canceled the event in 2020 and 2021, but it is returning from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 31. Several thousand people attend annually.

Returning for the first time in two years, the city of Sedona’s Parks & Recreation Department is hosting its annual Uptown Safe & Fun Trick-or-Treat event.

With Uptown merchants opening their businesses to give out treats, trick-or-treaters of all ages can safely collect their candy and celebrate the holiday together.

“We know our community has missed this event and we’re so grateful to the Uptown businesses for making it possible to bring it back this year,” city of Sedona Recreation Coordinator Lynette Chavez said.

Attendees are encouraged to attend the event, sponsored by the APS and Arizona Water Co. utilities through the free shuttle. It will run approximately every 20 minutes from the Posse Grounds Park and Ride lot, located at 20 Carruth Drive. Uptown’s free lots will also be open during the event.

Visitors can also participate in the Spooky Scavenger Hunt to win prizes donated by Uptown merchants. Cards for the activity can be picked up at Pink Jeep Tours at 204 SR 89A. Participants must get stamps from each participating merchant in Uptown to have a filled-out card. The completed cards should then be returned to Gypsy Jenny’s at State Route 89A and Apple Avenue. Merchants will later contact winners about their prizes.

The businesses will open up from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 31. While the deadline is still open for Uptown merchants to receive donated candy, Oct. 14 was the last day for businesses to sign up for it on the city’s Uptown Trick or Treat Merchant Portal.
The public can donate to this candy collection by dropping off bags of sealed sweets at the Parks and Recreation Department office at City Hall, from Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., or directly at participating businesses.
