Forward progress of Cornville Fire slowed or stopped1 min read

Fire activity on the Cornville Fire was minimal on Monday, June 14, and burned away from homes and populated areas, according to a June 15 release from Coconino National Forest. Firefighters secured lines around Cornville on Monday and patrolled the fire lines overnight.

Today, June 15, firefighters will be focusing on the northern and eastern flanks of the Cornville Fire to keep the fire from progressing any further. There are currently no evacuations or structures threatened, but residents in the area are encouraged to remain prepared and be ready to evacuate if necessary, the release stated.

The reported size of the fire, 1,241 acres, has not increased since Monday night. InciWeb is not yet reporting an estimated containment level.

On Monday, the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Services announced that fire personnel had determined the Cornville Fire started on Coconino National Forest land close to Cornville Road. As a result, Coconino National Forest took over updates on InciWeb. Previously the fire was believed to have started on private property and spread to adjacent land. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

“Extremely warm temperatures and windy conditions will persist throughout the next several days and will challenge firefighters as they work to increase containment of the fire and keep it from moving or growing any further,” a release stated.
