SRRHS gets 4th COVID-19 case in less than month1 min read

Another student at Sedona Red Rock High School has received a positive COVID-19 test result, making it the fourth positive case at the school in less than a month. The Sedona-Oak Creek School District announced that a student first had COVID-19 on Oct. 23. This followed by a similar announcement about an infected student on Nov. 12, and then the news that a staff member had contracted the virus came out on Nov. 15.

“We recently became aware that a student in our school tested positive for COVID-19,” SOCSD Assistant Superintendent Deana DeWitt wrote in the latest letter to parents on the afternoon of Friday, Nov. 19. “While we are unable to identify the individual due to the confidential nature of the medical information, we can share that the student has not been on campus since Friday, November 13, 2020.”

As of Nov. 15, Yavapai County Community Health Services Department had still determined that the SOCSD facilities were not required to be closed, however, the district leadership team decided on Nov. 17 to make the two days after Thanksgiving break ends — Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 — virtual only. More on that story can be read in Friday’s Red Rock News.

In every reported positive COVID case, the YCCHSD contacted individuals who were considered to be within close contact of the infected student or staff member, and required them to quarantine at home for two weeks, along with the infected persons.
