Agencies will test Oak Creek Canyon emergency sirens Oct. 281 min read

Local fire, law enforcement and emergency response agencies from Yavapai and Coconino Counties plan to test the emergency siren system in Oak Creek Canyon at approximately 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28.

The system notifies Oak Creek Canyon and Uptown residents of severe emergencies that require evacuation. In addition to fire emergencies, sirens are also used when the U.S. National Weather Service issues a Flash Flood Warning for Oak Creek Canyon. If the sirens sound, people in the canyon are asked to stop what they are doing, immediately get to high ground and tune-in to KAFF 930 AM or 92.9 FM for specific directions. Area residents are encouraged to register for emergency notifications at www.coconino.az.gov/ready.

Residents do not need to take any action during the Oct. 28 test. However, officials strongly encourage residents to review their personal emergency preparedness plan.  More information on developing a preparedness plan is available at ein.az.gov/ready-set-go.

For additional information about the emergency siren test, call 679-8311 or go to www.coconino.az.gov/ready.
