Ruth Wicks and former Yavapai College Governing Board member Robert Oliphant held the first exploratory meeting to discuss issues with the college’s recently-adopted 10-year master plan on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at Mingus Union High School in Cottonwood.

The meeting is part of a larger push by Wicks and Oliphant to potentially separate the Verde Valley region of Yavapai County from the current community college district and form a new district.

Oliphant resigned from the board in January over his disagreement with the 10-year plan, which proposes the closure and sale of the Sedona Center for Arts and Technology and relocation of the nursing program from the Verde Valley Campus in Clarkdale to Prescott Valley.
