Mayor discusses walkout1 min read

It was a move that caught many by surprise.

During the Aug. 14 Sedona City Council meeting, a request had been made to possibly reconsider the May 29 vote that dissolved the seven community commissions. A vote of 4-3 upheld the council’s original decision. Shortly after the vote, Mayor Rob Adams asked to recuse himself from the proceedings but did not give an explanation. He then gathered his things and walked out.

As for dissolving the commissions, Adams said everyone involved including the council, city staff and commissioners agreed that changes needed to be made due the amount of staff time, resources and finances being used. But instead of accepting staff’s recommendation to create a citizen engagement program, Adams said he would have preferred the council restructure the existing commissions, which had been around for 25 years.
